We Banjo 3 are on a US tour at the moment and we just had confirmation today that they will be performing for the President of the United States on March 15th on Capitol Hill as part of the Friends of Irish Luncheon. Also in attendance will be the Taoiseach, the Speaker of the House and the British Ambassador.
We Banjo 3 are right now one of the hottest Irish bands on the US Celtic/Irish music circuit. The band is set to perform for over 300,000 people in the US this year alone. Comprising two sets of brothers, the We Banjo 3’s Irish/bluegrass/old-time mix attained new heights on their second album Gather the Good, which went on to garner four Album of the Year awards in the US and Ireland. They were also nominees for the prestigious Folk Alliance International Artist of the Year last month.
The invitation to perform in Washington DC is a huge honour for the band, and comes on one of just about their only day off during a packed March run of dates taking them from Michigan to Ohio to Nashville, Tennessee and Chicago.
This current tour is part of a program of events curated by Culture Ireland called I Am Ireland, 1916 Centenary Program.
