National Geographic Travel has named Dublin’s New Year’s Festival, (NYF), as one of the top ten Winter Trips (events) for 2015. The three day city-wide festival will now feature prominently on National Geographic’s Travel website and across all the National Geographic Travel social media platforms, including their twitter account @natgeotravel which has over two million followers.
Also included in the list are, Vilnius, Lithuania, San Juan, Puerto Rico, New Taipei City, Taiwan, Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park, South Africa, Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, Santa Barbara, California, Mérida, Mexico, Chiloé Island, Chile and Rarotonga, Cook Islands.
Now in its fourth year, NYF was initiated by Fáilte Ireland in partnership with Dublin City Council in 2012 and debuted as a launch for ‘The gathering’ on December 31st 2012.
Speaking about the recent accolade, Noel John McLoughlin, Director of Marketing for Fáilte Ireland said –
“We are delighted to hear that Dublin’s New Year’s Festival has been highlighted by National Geographic’s Travel team as an event not to miss this winter. This accolade is proof that Dublin is competing with other cities when it comes to celebrations and we look forward to welcoming international visitors to Dublin once again this year for an action-packed programme of three days of Arts, Music, Culture and Live Entertainment.
“A young festival by any standard, the NYF is quickly becoming the jewel in Dublin’s winter crown and something that we in Dublin should be proud of. The festival is already proving to be a great draw for international visitors, with last year’s event attracting over 50,000 visitors from both home and abroad.”
The programme for 2015 was announced last week with highlights including the magical candlelit Procession of Light and a World Record Attempt for the Biggest Bodhrán Session amongst other activities. Festival-goers can also watch as city streetscapes come alive with Luminosity 3D animations and be spellbound by the outstanding Spoken Word Festival and Story@work as well as check out the other Love Dublin events and culture trails happening across the city.
Eventually, revellers can ring in the New Year at either the Three Countdown Concert or the NYF Street Fest and, the day after, look to the future with positivity during a fitness and well-being themed Resolution Day.
