It’s St John’s Bonfire Night in Ireland

It’s St John’s Bonfire night or Bonna night (Cork) across Ireland. The tradition of lighting fires two days after the midsummer solstice dates back thousands of years. At some stage in Irish history the fires were brought forward towards the feast of St John. Ancient pagan traditions are alive and well in modern Ireland and ironically it’s the age of social media that has given them a new lease of life.
