Glendalough, Always Worth It.

Less than 60 minutes from Dublin even in heavy traffic, Glendalough is probably one of Ireland’s top places to visit with everything to offer in one 15 square kilometer area. From ancient monastic ruins dating from the eighth century to a stunning valley landscape capped with wild gorse and sweeping cliffs. We took to the hills over the weekend and done the upper lake ridge walk. This hike takes about 3-4 hours depending on fitness level but it’s well marked with lots of board walks installed by the Irish heritage and forestry service Coilte to protect the bogs which are home to Ireland’s only common Lizard species. The hike itself brings you through lush green valley via the upper lake and then to a stunning summit overlooking the valley floor.
