Fia Rua – a folk artist worth checking out

Last week I went to The Savage Jim Breen’s album launch in McAuley Place, Nass and the supporting artist was singer/songwriter Fia Rua. I had never heard of him until that night (he actually has three albums out). He released his third album last Summer and got very positive reviews. His lyrics are full of Irish soulfulness with an edge and his rhythm on guitar and bodhrán is exceptional.   As well as being a singer/songwriter, Fia Rua (a.k.a.Eoghan Burke) has long been known for his unique takes on Irish ballads.  His singing voice reminds me of the best Irish ballads groups from the past. He has toured Europe and all over Ireland.
