5000 Year Old Tomb Found In Sligo

Archaeologist Michael Gibbons discovered the tomb on Tievebaun mountain in Co Sligo. According to the latest analysis the tomb could date back as far as 3500 BC making it older than the pyramids of Egypt.

The settlement remains in the region span over the millennia containing Neolithic, Bronze and Iron age items.

Because of it’s remote location this particular discovery has remained undiscovered on the edge of the mountain.

Recent discovery of human remains last year from Knocknarea mountain (pictured below) were carbon dated to 5500 BC which suggest this particular area was well settled much earlier than previously envisioned.
